Define Good Monk
Lately, I have been trying to find out what makes a good monk. I realized that every monk seems to know when to use:
- a big prot on spikes
- use small prots on pressure,
- veil frontline, flagger,
- aura on the flagger just as he moves in,
- infuse when bars go down and is 0.5 seconds from dying, and the target has no prot (of course infuse has other uses as well).
- bars go up with WoH, patient and RC (if people have condi)
- remove deepwound within 0 - 2 second
If most monks know this, how can you tell who is a good or better monk?

a monk who removes what needs to be removed, understand priorities in removal and healing, and is able to catch a spike fairly easily.

DOESN'T use WoH on someone down 5 health.
DOESN'T use Guardian on someone getting wanded.

Well a good monk pays attention to what is happening on the field as opposed to a bad monk who simply watches the red bars the whole time. To me that is a big factor. I am not a good monk, in fact I am probably pretty bad but I try and watch what is going on

A monk is only as good as the rest of his/her team?
But essentially a good monk talks with his/her monking partner and the rest of the team weather it be in HA or GvG.

exact defintition : monk /mʌŋk/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[muhngk] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation
–noun
1. (in Christianity) a man who has withdrawn from the world for religious reasons, esp. as a member of an order of cenobites living according to a particular rule and under vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience.
2. (in any religion) a man who is a member of a monastic order: a Buddhist monk.
3. Printing. a dark area on a printed page caused by uneven inking of the plate or type. Compare friar (def. 2).
[Origin: bef. 900; ME; OE munuc < LL monachus < Gk monachós hermit, n. use of adj.: solitary, equiv. to món(os) alone + -achos adj. suffix]
—Synonyms 1. brother. Monk, friar refer to members of special male groups whose lives are devoted to the service of the church, esp. in Roman Catholic, Anglican, and Orthodox denominations. A monk is properly a member of a monastery, under a superior; he is bound by a vow of stability, and is a co-owner of the community property of the monastery. Since the Reformation, monk and friar have been used as if they were the same. A friar is, however, strictly speaking, a member of a mendicant order, whose members are not attached to a monastery and own no community property.

One definition of a superior monk is consistent execution. Just because you can theorycraft on proper behavior doesn't mean you can do it on a regular basis.

80% of all monks should know, when to use which skill. If a monk is bull's striked 24/7 and eating shames and diversions he definitely isn't a good monk. Battlefield Awareness ftw - keep an eye on the opponent mesmer and their warriors.

Still it's one skill that can decide the game when it goes through. So yeah, it depends on how well you can fakespam to delay the pblock that will kill you, and how often you get fc on RC. That assuming you're not getting humsig spammed, of course.
Reminds me of the LoD pleak times, only it wasn't as devastating back then.

Monking well really isn't that hard. It's all pre-programmed responses to certain situations. Monks do not generally make game changing decisions. The closest I've found you can get to that is using intuition to pre-prot spikes against a good pure spike build.
So what if anything makes a good Monk? Consistency I guess.
